Feeding Guidelines

Dogs

PUPPIES 

Small & Medium Breed

2 Months – 4 Months

Recommended to consume 10 to 8% of body weight per day divided into three meals.

4 Months – 6 Months

Recommended to consume 8 to 6% of body weight per day divided into three meals.

6 Months – 9 Months 

Recommended to consume 6 to 4% of body weight per day divided into two meals.

9 Months – 12 Months 

Recommended to consume 4 to 3% of body weight per day divided into two meals.

Large/Giant Breed Puppies should be fed a lower percentage of their body weight with each growth stage as these breeds should not grow too fast to ensure good bone density and healthy joints – subject to not over-exercising your puppy, especially during the first 12 months.

ADULT DOGS

Low Activity: Recommended to consume 1.5% to 2% of body weight per day divided between two meals. 

Medium Activity: Recommended to consume 2 to 3% of body weight per day divided between two meals.

High Activity: Recommended to consume 3% to 6% of body weight per day divided between two meals.

DOGS WHO SHOULD BE FED LOWER PERCENTAGE:

  • Large breed puppies over 16 weeks
  • Older, less active dogs
  • Sedentary dogs
  • Dogs who are overweight
  • Spayed or neutered adult dogs
  • Large breed adult dogs

 

DOGS WHO SHOULD BE FED AN AVERAGE PERCENTAGE:

  • Medium, small and toy puppies over 16 weeks
  • Moderately active puppies
  • Moderately active dogs
  • Dogs who are a healthy weight
  • Adult dogs who have not been sterilised
  • Medium, small and toy adult dogs
  • Healthy dogs

 

DOGS WHO SHOULD BE FED HIGHER PERCENTAGE:

  • Puppies under 16 weeks
  • Very active, busy puppies
  • Working dogs and Shepherds
  • Dogs who are underweight
  • Pregnant and lactating bitches
  • Certain geriatric dogs
  • Dogs with IBS/IBD related weight loss

Cats

KITTENS

2 Months – 4 Months

Recommended to consume 10 to 8% of body weight per day divided into three meals.

High Activity: Recommended to consume 4% to 6% of body weight in food per day divided into two meals according to activity levels and age.

Senior Cats

Recommended to consume 1,5% to 2% of their body weight in food per day divided into three meals according to activity levels and age.

CATS WHO SHOULD BE FED LOWER PERCENTAGE:

  • Cats over the age of 8 years
  • Less active cats
  • Cats who are overweight
  • Spayed and neutered adult cats

CATS WHO SHOULD BE FED AN AVERAGE PERCENTAGE:

  • Cats over 12 months
  • Moderately active cats
  • Cats who are a healthy weight
  • Breeding Queens & Toms

CATS WHO SHOULD BE FED HIGHER PERCENTAGE:

  • Kittens under 6 months
  • Very active, busy cats

  • Pregnant and lactating Queens
